The natural: Just doing what comes naturally – it’s only “work” for her parents’ benefit.
An encyclopaedia of show tunes, 70s TV ads, 80s hit parade, & whatever song was just on the radio. As a child, it drove her family mad. Now when Jen stops singing, the crowd yells “more”!
Where’s Jen? Just ducked into a boutique to try on a vintage frock for your next big event.
The nerd: possessor of a little too much information at times, but handy as Maradonna on trivia night.
Growing up in a house without a record player, a life-long obsession with music takes hold. The only skinny white guitarist never to play Sweet Child O Mine, instead paving his stairway to heaven with records on Stax, Motown, Tuff Gong & Blue Note.
When we can’t find him, Lach is flicking through record crates looking for that song.
The doctor: if he can’t put a groove in a song, that song is dead my friends.
A South Coast boy who dived head-first into the Sydney independent music scene. When he resurfaced, a jazz café in Amsterdam was the starting point in the pursuit of unravelling the mysteries of the double-bass.
If he doesn’t answer the phone we can usually find his van parked at a pumping surf break.
The chameleon: can switch from bossa to jazz-waltz seamlessly & without cracking his blue-steel gaze.
With the South Coast in his blood, Hayden made his way back from the Big Smoke and was promptly kidnapped by The Escalators where he finds himself a slave to the groove. The wide-ranging music style of the band is perfect for a drummer who is a veritable rhythm-atlas.
If he’s not at the beach, we can find him in the lotus position fasting on almonds.
The therapist: occasional counsellor & always able to bring us back to Earth with a killer sense of humour.
A small town girl who was born playing piano. Music teacher; music therapist; wine & cheese connoisseur – perfectly qualified to wield her musical weapons with The Escalators!
If Amy is missing in the set-break, she might just be rocking an air guitar on the dance floor.
The alchemist: able to weave musical gold with his magic horn in any situation.
As a wee lad he soaked up the sounds of the family record collection while his Old Man sang in show bands. Singing& playing in bands on the Sydney Ska & Reggae scene, Dave devoted himself to jazz, practicing on CBD rooftops in his lunch break.
If Dave goes missing, we’re never worried…he has enough Apps to get to Oz and back.
